Frequently Asked Questions

What does direct hire mean?

This INDEED article does an excellent job of explaining what direct placement means, and it highlights why they should be attractive for candidates.

Does Eastern offer direct hire positions?

Yes, we do. We have many direct positions posted on our Jobs page.

What field of positions are direct hires?

All positions can be a direct placement. However, traditionally, it is within professional, finance, IT, engineering, executive search, middle management, marketing, and sales positions. These positions are usually more specific (e.g., software engineer, sales manager, or cost accountant) and require a higher entry-level skill (e.g., Mid to senior level,  requiring a minimum of 5-10 years of experience.)

How many direct hire positions does Eastern Staffing & Recruiting offer?

On average, annually, we fill approximately 100 positions.

What’s the difference between contract to hire and direct hire?

The real question is the difference between staffing and recruiting and who will be holding the candidate on their payroll. Staffing refers to hiring candidates on the agency’s payroll for a contract period. Staffing can be a short term position or a full time position. Recruiting refers to helping a client company find, screen, and hire candidates for the client company’s open position. Recruiting is full time employment. Simply put, staffing is contract and contract to hire. Recruiting is direct hire.

What are the similarities between the two?

  • Employers are looking for a good fit for their position
  • Job seekers are still highly valued and desirable
  • Staffing agencies want the best option for both the candidate and the company

Why would a company use a recruiting agency for their direct hire positions?

There are many reasons why a company would utilize direct placement. Traditionally it’s to help them find a higher volume of candidates, which helps expand their recruiting footprint and offers more options to consider. Additionally, Eastern Staffing & Recruiting’s partnership with client companies allows them the time to focus on their core business while keeping their recruiting efforts covered.

What is contract to hire?

Please reference this INDEED article. It does an excellent job of explaining what it is and its pros and cons for job seekers.

What does contract to hire mean?

Often referred to as staffing recruitment, temp-to-hire, or long-term to permanent work. This type of position is offered from the staffing company to a candidate on a contract to permanent basis. 99% of our contract to hire roles are full time positions. Candidates will have to work a specific amount of time for the staffing company to be considered for a permanent offer from the client company. Candidates will have to work directly for the staffing company until the contract hours have been fulfilled. This allows the company and the candidate an opportunity to try the position before making a long-term commitment.  This is a great proving ground for candidates to try a new industry, position, or company. It also offers the company a place to evaluate the performance and placement of the new candidate.

What’s the difference between contract to hire and direct hire?

There are very few differences between the two. For the most part, it comes down to where the employee is going to get paid from and who covers the benefits for the employee. For a contract to hire employee payroll comes from the staffing agency. The hiring process and interviewing process remain the same.

Who determines the type of position?

The client company determines whether the position is short term, long term to permanent or direct hire. These positions are set by a contract to hire agreement set between the staffing agency and the company.
